Brainchild

‘...the evidence of ‘summer learning loss’ is beyond dispute.... summer learning camps would help...’

(The Times, July 2011)

Welcome to Brainchild, Southampton's new fun education 'top-up' option.     Our philosophy is that children should be independent thinkers, and, to do this, they need to develop thinking skills and learn how to evaluate the information they absorb.  Our services are intended for children aged 5 - 11 years.

These thinking skills are important tools for life.  Children need to think issues through, and to have the tools available for this - the thinking tools provided by logic - reason and argument.   Children need to hear different sides of an argument, and develop the skills to evaluate arguments and come to a reasoned conclusion.   This kind of thinking will be an invaluable life and career tool - the ultimate transferable skill.

Our aim is to present subject matter not normally covered in school (like philosophy, chess, law, politics and so on), which have been shown to raise IQ levels, verbal and written reasoning skills, and  improve assimilation of knowledge in all areas of education .  This tuition is available to parents outside school hours, at weekends and holidays, or to schools during normal school hours (please see our 'schools' page).  The company is staffed only by graduates, and all tutors and sports coaches have been enhanced CRB-checked.  If you would like your child to benefit from that bit of extra 'something special' in their educational endeavours, then 'brainchild' is for you.

Whilst recognising that extra tutoring is of enormous benefit to your child, we recognise too that kids need fun.   So we offer, at our summer school, a structured and fully supervised sports and exercise programme, to ensure that your child will have a great time whilst helping them to develop skills such as balance and coordination.   Additionally, we do not believe that fun and education are mutually exclusive aspirations.   We offer 'brain games' like chess, sudoku, scrabble, and 'fraction action' a card game like 'snap' that helps kids match up fractions with percentages and decimals.

One more exract from the TImes:

‘...you are never too young to learn philosophy. Weekly philosophy sessions improve problem-solving skills, communication and confidence, and raise IQ levels...’
