Schools
As well as offering extra-curricular services, Brainchild can also provide all courses to run alongside the normal curriculum. Schools can contract us to run classes in normal school hours - this can be done by substituting a class in thinking skills for a class in another subject, like 'topic' in primary schools, or we might, for example, teach ideas from ancient Greek philosophy in the stead of a history class, or explore ideas about morality and ethics in place of an RE class. What we teach your pupils is up to you! But all of these subjects will enhance your school's profile in the wider education-community, and give your school something different to offer parents and pupils alike. Our emphasis is not on teaching children about philosophers and what they thought - rather, it is to get them thinking for themselves about some of the puzzles that have endured over time. Thought experiments (these are great fun, and really get kids thinking - and adults too!)
Metaphysics (what kinds of things exist, and how do we know they exist?)
Ethical theory - What does it mean to live a good life? How do we know when an action is 'good'?
Identity theory - what makes you 'you'?
Free will - are we really free to chose what we do, or are all actions/effects pre-determined by outside causes?
